Matthew Bible Commentary - This Gospel is believed to be written by Matthew the tax collector, one of the 12 Apostles of Chrisrt.
Matthew in the Bible
The name Matthew means "Gift of the Lord".
He possibly wrote primarily for the Jews in the Greek speaking world, trying to show that Jesus was their Messiah.
He therefore quoted many times from the Old testament, showing how Jesus fulfilled the promimses and prophecy.
This is confirmed by the testimony of Jesus Christ Himself (Matthew 5:17)
Matthew presented Christ's authority as seen in hhis healing the sick and the demon-possessed, and even raising the dead.
We see Jesus as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords and we celebrate His victory over death.
