For God gave us a Spirit who produces NOT timidity, but power, love, and self-discipline. (2Timothy 1:7 Complete Jewish Bible) Emphasis mine.
Our Father instructs hundreds of times in His Word that we are not to be afraid; clearly He knew that bowing to fear would be a temptation common to man. (1 Corinthians 10:13) Therefore, God went before us making crooked places straight, ensuring His Word thoroughly instructs us in overcoming the spirit of fear.
Every biblical hero had to first conquer this demonic spirit before they could walk in God’s destiny for their lives. They weren’t heroes because they were never afraid, but because they overcame fear to fulfill God’s purpose: Noah overcame fear to build the ark; Moses overcame fear of facing Pharaoh to free God’s people; Joshua and Caleb overcame fear of battling giants to take the promise land; Joseph overcame fear of the pit to save the tribes of Israel; Ruth overcame fear of dwelling with strangers to find her Boaz; David overcame fear of his enemies to be crowned as king; and even Jesus overcome fear to lay down His life for us!
Remember, while Satan screams his promises to kill, steal, and destroy our lives, God whispers His promises of an abundant life. (John 10:10) But it’s up to us choose everyday whose promises we hear loudest. And if we choose God’s, then greater is His Word whispered in us than all of Satan’s lies screamed in the world, in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Joshua 24:15; 1 John 4:4)
