Is Love a Baptism?

Is the love of God really a baptism? Over and over, we’ve heard prayers like “Lord baptize us with the baptism of love” or “lord fill every member of this congregation with the baptism of love”. Friends, this is not so. More than a dozen times, i did pray this prayer too out of ignorance of the word. What is the bible saying about love?

Through out the scriptures, there is no single place where it is said of a person or a group of people filled with the “Baptism of love” Love is not a Baptism but a fruit of the spirit which has the capacity to Grow. It is also a commandment.
At new birth, you possess an amount of the love of God – The truth is, you can’t claim to be saved without loving – “We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not abideth in death.” – 1 John 3:14.

Passed out of death into life simply means Salvation which occurs because we live in love (1 John 3:14). Apart from love being a fruit of the spirit, it is also a commandment for the regenerated, new testament, born again Christians or believers.

Jesus said in John 13:34-35 "I'm giving you a new commandment: Love each other in the same way that I have loved you. Everyone will know that you are my disciples because of your love for each other."
So, love is not a baptism you pray God for, it’s a commandment you live by and the fruit of the spirit that has the capacity to grow when fed with the word of God.

Instead of praying for the baptism of love, Just live a life of love and constantly feed your spirit man with the word of God – this will definitely boost up your love for people around you which makes you a doer of the word.
