Keeping our Promise - "When he saw her, he tore his clothes in grief and said, "Oh no, Daughter! You've brought me to my knees! What disaster you've brought me! I made a foolish promise to the LORD. Now I can't break it." - Judges 11:35
Promises not kept kept can destroy families, relationships, and countries. Our words and how we keep them define who we are. Christians should not speak rashly or take vows lightly. If we say Yes or I will, and fail to honour our words, it turns our vow into a lie.
Jephthah’s story is one of anguish and regret for a vow made in haste, and yet it is a moving story of a man faithfully keeping his vow to God. Even Jephthah’s daughter recognized the importance of him keeping his vow and submitted without question - faithful obedience.
Word of God Today: May we consider our words and honor them faithfully in Jesus Name.
